  • Jubilee Tree Planting

    Sun 09 Dec 2012
On Thursday Miss Robinson, Mrs Jackson, Mrs Dawes and Miss Baker took a group of children to plant some trees in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year. The event was organised by the local council whose aim was to plant 6000 trees this year.

All of the children had great fun and even though it was really cold we managed to plant over 100 trees on a patch of land near Churchill Way, including a large oak tree.

  • The wait is finally over! Let's go!

    Wed 05 Dec 2012
At long last, the Foundation Stage Outside Classroom is complete and the children have had great fun, learning outside today in the lovely winter sunshine.  Have a look at Gnome Class' page to see what they've been up to today by clicking here.

Learning outside is a central part of our work at Gateford Park and we are all delighted with this new development at our school.
  • Speedmark Challenge

    Wed 14 Nov 2012

Today, we were visited by Michael from Speedmark.  He told us all about an exciting challenge that will take place in two weeks' time, on Wednesday 28 November.

All of the children will take part in a sponsored football kick-a-thon.  The children will have chances to measure how fast they can make a ball travel by kicking it and see if they can beat their own scores.  What a great way to have fun, keep fit and raise funds for the school.  You can find out more about Speedmark by clicking their logo on the above.

Today we had a visit from Science Headquarters.  James Boffin, Special Scientist Agent, was sent to show us some science he has been working on.  He made us laugh and cheer and clap and taught us about lots of amazing science stuff.  Have a look at some of the photographs, maybe you will see something you can try out at home.
  • Harvest Time at Gateford Park

    Fri 05 Oct 2012
On Thursday, we held our two annual Harvest Festivals at school. The children sang beautifully in the performances and many kind donations of food were given by parents. Pete Hardy, from Poplar Church, reminded us all that 'we reap what we sow' and entertained us with photos from the past. The parents who came to see the KS1 Harvest Festival looked fantastic, joining in with the actions to the songs!

As is the tradition at Gateford Park, the Year 6 children then took the donations out into the community, to give them as gifts to the elderly who live nearby. It was lovely to see Gateford children bringing a smile to so many faces. Please see the photographs below.

Our thanks go to everyone who donated food and came along to support our Harvest Festivals, to the parents who helped with distributing the harvest parcels and to the staff who made it all possible. Thank you!

  • Team GP Football Update

    Thu 04 Oct 2012
There has been excellent news from the football field this week, with two excellent victories for Team GP!

On Tuesday, the boys went to Priory School to face them in the first round of the Parry Cup.  Both teams played well but with two super goals from Jamie B. and one each from Adam O. and Joshua G., Team GP won with an impressive 0-4 scoreline.

On Wednesday, it was the first match in the league as the boys faced St. Augustine's School at our Raymoth Lane field.  Jamie B. and Adam O. provided a goal each leading to a 2-0 victory for Team GP.

Our thanks go to the parents and staff who help with coaching and come along to cheer the boys on.

What a great start to the new season!  Go Team GP - keep it up!

Please check back for photographs of the games in the next couple of days.
  • Important Information

    Sat 29 Sep 2012
Next week, beginning 1 October 2012, the school will be having solar panels fitted by British Gas.  We have been able to arrange this at no cost to us and all of the electicity that we produce will be a saving on our enormous electricity bill.

The work will take approximately one week and there is going to be a little disruption to our normal dropping off and collecting arrangements at the beginning and end of the school day.

    From Monday:

Mrs. Hibbert, Miss Robinson and Mrs. Blythe's classes should all come into school through Mrs. Hibbert's cloakroom.  The children will be dismissed through that door too.  To avoid congestion, please allow the children to hang up their own coats and come into their classrooms by themselves and leave buggies outside.

Mrs. Norton and Mrs. Blackman's classes will come into school through the main entrance next to the office and go to their classrooms through the hall.  They will leave school this way too.

Miss Read and Miss Reynolds' classes will use their own classroom doors, but must use the brown gate entrance next to Miss Read's classroom.

Please may we ask that scooters and bikes stay at home this week.

Apologies in advance of any inconvenience that this may cause in the short term, but we will be able to put the savings made on the electricity bill to great use in buying the best resources for Gateford Park children that money can buy.

    Thank you.
