Hello and welcome to the new academic year. Your children have made the massive leap into KS2 and I am looking forward to the fantastic year ahead. This year is my first at Gateford Park as a class teacher, after successfully completing my PGCE at Sheffield Hallam University.
During our six half terms, we will be covering a wide range of topics. Our six topics are Stone Age to Iron Age, Roald Dahl, Africa, Rainforests, Romans and the Olympics. To ensure an exciting and engaging curriculum for your children, we will be arranging school trips and inviting visitors into school.
Half Term One - Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age
During our first half term, we will be travelling back in time to the Stone Age. The children will visit the Peak Cavern, in Castleton and spend the whole half term learning all about the changes in Britain from the Stone Age all the way through to the Iron Age.
... The more you read, the more things you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places that you'll go. - Dr. Seuss. ...
Throughout the year, children will be encouraged to read as much as they possibly can. Whether that be individually, to an adult or in a group. Children will bring books home to read. If you could continue to write a short comment in their school diary, that would be really appreciated. Diaries will be checked on a Friday and Dojo's will be awarded accordingly.
Our designated PE days this year are Tuesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor). This half term we are covering tennis and gymnastics. During the final three terms of the academic year, the children will be going swimming. More information will be provided closer to the time.
