  • We have got the Eggs Factor!

    Fri 30 Mar 2012
Well done to all of the winners in our Eggs Factor competition.

We were amazed by the standard of all 77 entries and the creativity that everyone showed was super!

Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Ellis had a really tricky time judging the entries to the competition.  It was not an easy decision to make!

We hope that our first Eggs Factor competition has inspired everyone to have a go when we do it all again next year.

Our thanks go to Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Ellis for their brilliant organisation, to the parents and carers for their support and to the children for their creativity.  Well done!

  • Tree Planting

    Tue 13 Mar 2012
To celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Bassetlaw District Council has started an initiative where they aim to plant six thousand young trees.

We were invited to be part of this special event to plant some indigenous trees on the grassy area near Churchill Way.

The twenty-nine children who went down to the area this morning worked really hard, digging and planting and managed to plant around two hundred trees. Busy!

We are all looking forward to watching them grow!

Our thanks go to Miss Robinson, Cllr. Bill Barker and the children for helping to make Gateford a better place for everyone.
  • Mount Olympus Day - The Bassetlaw Torch

    Fri 02 Mar 2012

What a super day we have had today.  All of the children and staff came to school wearing their Ancient Greek dress, ready for the arrival of the Bassetlaw Torch.

The Bassetlaw Torch is currently travelling around all 65 schools in the Bassetlaw District.

Athletes from Worksop Harriers were on hand to run the torch through the school grounds, whilst the children and staff waved their union flags and cheered as loudly as they could.

Next was a special welcome ceremony for the torch.  Mrs. Gillett opened the assembly by giving a speech in her fluent Greek and Miss Read asked for the torch to be brought in and placed in the hall.  Our local MP, John Mann, then gave a speech to the children.

He hoped all of them would have a go at different sports and hoped that the London 2012 Olympic Games would encourage Gateford children to take up sport.

Handing out certificates to our successful, Bassetlaw champions, athletics team, Mr. Mann encouraged everyone to do their best and and be proud of the school.

The rest of the day was spent with children trying their hand at some Olympic sports that they may not have tried before.

Our thanks go to Worksop Harriers, John Mann MP, the children, parents and staff for their support and especially to Miss Read, for organising the whole event.

All in all, another really great day at Gateford Park Primary School.
