  • Olympic torch comes to Gateford Park!

    Wed 11 Jul 2012
Today, we were thrilled to have a London 2012 Olympic torch in school.  Parent, Michelle Harrop had been chosen over hundreds of other applicants to carry the torch when it made its visit to Bolsover a few weeks ago.  Mrs. Harrop will be joining Gateford Park in September as our new sports coach.

The children could help but smile as they each held the torch aloft.  Maybe we have an Olympic gold medalist of the future!

Click on the photographs below to see the torch at Gateford Park.

  • Summer BBQ a big success!

    Sat 07 Jul 2012
What a fantastic evening we had last night.  Well over 300 people attending our first PTFA Summer BBQ!

After quite possibly the rainiest July day of all time, the sun shone down on Gateford Park for everyone to enjoy a burger, a drink (or two!), face painting, raffles, games, bouncy castles, sweets, ice-creams and each other's company at the end of a good year!

Unfortunately, we were so busy 'doing' that we didn't take any photographs!!  If you took any photos that you would be happy to share with us, please e-mail them to Mrs. Ellis at office@gateford.notts.sch.uk  Thank you!

Our thanks go to the PTFA Committee and volunteers for their fantastic organisation; to the staff for their support; to the sponsors of the event and to everyone who came along to share the evening.  Thank you!

Finally, keep Friday 5 July 2013 clear in your diaries!  Let's do it all again!
  • Red, white and blue!

    Thu 31 May 2012
What a fantastic time the children in Gnome, Pixie and Unicorn classes had making a huge union flag on the playground!

Everyone brought some red, white and blue things to use to make our beautiful flag as part of our celebrations for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee!

We were very impressed with the results and we're sure that the Queen would love it too!  Please click below to see the children working together.

    Well done everyone!

  • Up, up and away!

    Wed 30 May 2012
Everyone cheered as the balloons were released in our Great Gateford Juballoon Race!

As part of our Jubilee celebrations, a balloon race was organised and the lucky winner whose balloon travels the furthest will receive £50. Mr. Letton said he was very confident that his balloon would go all the way to Russia and had already decided what he would spend his £50 on!

Parents and carers came along to see the balloons fly away and everyone had a great time!  The winner will be announced as soon as it is known.

Thank you to everyone who made the event a great success.

  • Children's University comes to Gateford Park

    Thu 10 May 2012
We are thrilled to announce that Children's University is coming to Gateford Park!

Children's University is run by the Children's University Trust.  It operates through more than 80 local centres, with our centre being at Nottingham Trent University.  It is an excellent way to give recognition to the children for all of the super extra-curricular activities they take part in, both at school and at home.

All of our children in the current Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 will be enrolled at the Children's University. The children will use their Passports To Learning in which they record the number of hours of completed CU validated learning activities. There are hundreds!  Children are encouraged to progress through the national certification scheme, based on the number of hours of attendance throughout their involvement with the Children's University. Bronze, silver and gold certificates are awarded at CU Undergraduate, CU Postgraduate and CU Doctorate levels, with an exciting graduation ceremony at Nottingham Trent University, complete with a cap and gown.

More information will come home soon.  We hope that Children's University will be a brilliant success at Gateford Park!

  • Your School Needs You!

    Fri 04 May 2012
    Your school needs you!

We are desperately looking for people who are able to give a little bit of their time to help our children to become expert gardeners.

We have lovely planters and raised beds around the site, but we need a little grown-up expertise to help the children to grow vegetables, flowers and other plants.

If you are able to give us a little of your time to work with some budding gardeners who are eager to learn the tricks of the trade - please get in touch with Mrs. Blythe at school.
