  • We have got the Eggs Factor!

    Fri 30 Mar 2012
Well done to all of the winners in our Eggs Factor competition.

We were amazed by the standard of all 77 entries and the creativity that everyone showed was super!

Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Ellis had a really tricky time judging the entries to the competition.  It was not an easy decision to make!

We hope that our first Eggs Factor competition has inspired everyone to have a go when we do it all again next year.

Our thanks go to Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Ellis for their brilliant organisation, to the parents and carers for their support and to the children for their creativity.  Well done!

  • Tree Planting

    Tue 13 Mar 2012
To celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Bassetlaw District Council has started an initiative where they aim to plant six thousand young trees.

We were invited to be part of this special event to plant some indigenous trees on the grassy area near Churchill Way.

The twenty-nine children who went down to the area this morning worked really hard, digging and planting and managed to plant around two hundred trees. Busy!

We are all looking forward to watching them grow!

Our thanks go to Miss Robinson, Cllr. Bill Barker and the children for helping to make Gateford a better place for everyone.
  • Mount Olympus Day - The Bassetlaw Torch

    Fri 02 Mar 2012

What a super day we have had today.  All of the children and staff came to school wearing their Ancient Greek dress, ready for the arrival of the Bassetlaw Torch.

The Bassetlaw Torch is currently travelling around all 65 schools in the Bassetlaw District.

Athletes from Worksop Harriers were on hand to run the torch through the school grounds, whilst the children and staff waved their union flags and cheered as loudly as they could.

Next was a special welcome ceremony for the torch.  Mrs. Gillett opened the assembly by giving a speech in her fluent Greek and Miss Read asked for the torch to be brought in and placed in the hall.  Our local MP, John Mann, then gave a speech to the children.

He hoped all of them would have a go at different sports and hoped that the London 2012 Olympic Games would encourage Gateford children to take up sport.

Handing out certificates to our successful, Bassetlaw champions, athletics team, Mr. Mann encouraged everyone to do their best and and be proud of the school.

The rest of the day was spent with children trying their hand at some Olympic sports that they may not have tried before.

Our thanks go to Worksop Harriers, John Mann MP, the children, parents and staff for their support and especially to Miss Read, for organising the whole event.

All in all, another really great day at Gateford Park Primary School.

  • Gateford Park - Radio Stars!!

    Sat 25 Feb 2012
Last week, BBC Radio Sheffield's Howard Pressman came to school to interview our children for his 'Kids Talk' section.

He asked the children about lots of things, ranging from 'What is your Grandma like?' to 'What does God look like?'  Some interesting answers followed!

You can listen to the programme on BBC iPlayer, by clicking here.

You can listen to the whole programme, or if you are in a hurry, your can scroll to 8:20 for the first part and 1:11:25 for the second part!

Well done, Gateford!  We are very proud of you!
  • Keep Smiling!

    Tue 21 Feb 2012
This week, we have introduced a new system called ‘Keep Smiling’ and we are re-introducing Golden Time into the timetable.

Each week, the children will have ten smiley faces on a sheet. We hope that children will be able to keep all of their smiley faces in tact by the end of the week and enjoy the full 45 minutes of Golden Time on a Friday afternoon.

However, children will lose smiley faces if they do not behave as well as everyone would like. Each smiley face is worth five minutes of Golden Time. So, if a child loses four smiley faces in a week, they will miss twenty minutes of their Golden Time on Friday and will spend that time reflecting on how they will make next week a better one with me. A text will be sent home to children who must miss Golden Time.

The children told us in a recent questionnaire that they sometimes feel that children who are doing the right thing all of the time sometimes get forgotten. Children who keep all of their smiley faces will receive a special sticker for a chart. Eight stickers will lead to a Bronze Award, sixteen will gain a Silver Award and twenty-four will gain a Gold Award. We have bought very fancy certificates and we are sure that the children will love to receive these very special awards from Mr. Letton.

Every week will be a fresh start and there are lots of opportunities for the children to show just how brilliant they are. Staff have explained the system to the children and they think that it is a good idea.

We hope that ‘Keep Smiling’ will be a big success here at Gateford, and thank you for your continued support for the school.

  • 欢迎您,夫人陆! (Welcome Mrs. Lu!)

    Thu 15 Dec 2011

How fantastic it is to have friends from thousands of miles away!  We were delighted to welcome Mrs. Lu Huaying to our school.

Mrs. Lu is the headteacher of Jiangbin Primary School, which is to be found in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, China.  She came with her translator, Miss Yang Xinyuan, to find out a little about the education system in England.  Mr. Letton had met Mrs. Lu before, when he visited her school in China in 2010.

Mrs. Lu spent time touring the school.  She commented several times about Gateford Park children's excellent behaviour and was delighted when the children greeted her with a cheery 'Ni hao!'

Mrs. Lu spent time teaching Class 6 and 7.  She showed the children how to do some traditional Chinese paper crafts.  She also brought along some Christmas cards that the children at Jiangbin had made for our children.

After that, Mrs. Lu and Mr. Letton talked about how they would make a strong link between the two schools, so that the children can make friends with and learn about people from a very different culture.

Our link will really begin in the New Year.  We can't wait!
