  • Away in a Manger... At Brackenhurst Farm

    Mon 09 Dec 2013
On Friday, Gnome Class made a visit to the Brackenhurst Farm campus of Nottingham Trent University.

They had a fantastic time, finding out about all of the animals there and joining in a nativity performance with real live animals.  The children were asked to name two lambs.  We are sure that 'Tinsel and Bauble' love their new names!

The children enjoyed a much needed lunch and then spent the afternoon making wonderful Christmas decorations from natural materials and a good time was had by all!

Our thanks go to Mrs. Hibbert for her organisation and to all of the staff and parents who made Gnome Class' first educational visit such a success.  Great job, #TeamGP!

  • National School Meals Week

    Fri 15 Nov 2013
What a brilliant time we have all had during National School Meals week.

It was wonderful to have so many parents, carers and grandparents coming to join us for lunch every day.

The children had a great time helping Chef Lou to prepare the school dinners for everyone.  We don't think we have ever seen quite so many decorations on one biscuit before!  The pizzas were very yummy too!

Our thanks go to Mrs. Hibbert and Chef Lou for organising a super week in school.  Thank you.

  • Victory for TeamGP at the English Institute of Sport!

    Mon 14 Oct 2013
    What a fantastic day...

Our Year 6 athletics team, accompanied by Miss Mills and Mrs. Green, attended the annual Outwood Portland Sportshall Athletics Competition at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield today and....WE WON!!!

The children impressed all of the event organisers and GP staff with their fantastic attitude; they encouraged each other in their events and showed everybody how well Team GP work as a team.

Another highlight of the day was meeting Jessica Ennis - an inspiration and role model! She made the special effort to come and get a photo with us all in the middle of her training session.  Fantastic!

Well done boys and girls, we are SO very proud of you all!

    Go TeamGP!!

Please see the Key Information' page for some photographs of our fantastic athletics team.

Mr. Letton would like to thank Outwood Academy Portland for arranging this super inter-schools competition; Mrs. Green for her great work in leading Physical Education at the school; Miss Mills for going along with the children and cheering them on and our coach, Mrs. Harrop, for her commitment to making TeamGP the best we can be!

  • Hidden Treasure from Revd. Alvey

    Mon 23 Sep 2013
This morning, we were joined by our good friend Reverend Alvey for assembly.  We heard about hidden treasures and then joined him in a song.  Year 3 and 4 children had previously visited Christ Church on Thievesdale Lane and were involved in a variety of activities and workshops.  They treated us to a great song accompanied by dancing with banners.

Thank you, Reverend Alvey!  It is always great to see you!

  • Kingswood

    Tue 17 Sep 2013
    A little apology from Kingswood!

The children are having a great time and we are taking lots of photos. Unfortunately, the wireless connection here is not playing nicely - so we are struggling to get them online at the moment. We'll keep trying!

We are tweeting updates very regularly. Please go to twitter.com/GatefordPark to read our tweets. You don't have to have an account to read them - but the children love it when you tweet back!

Keep checking for all of the latest!
  • What is it?

    Thu 12 Sep 2013
This week, we have been working with sculptor Simon Kent to make a new art installation for our school garden.

All of the children have been learning and using wood carving techniques to create a fantastic piece of art for the school!  But what is it?

A little clue can be seen in the picture and all will be revealed on Friday when we see the mystery object installed in the garden!

We're all very excited!  Working together to make things better is The Gateford Way.

  • Sizzling Summer Fun!

    Thu 18 Jul 2013

What a fantastic evening we all had at school at the (now annual) Summer Sizzler.

Well over 400 people came to school on a beautiful summer's evening to celebrate the end of another great year at Gateford Park.

With performances from the Glee Club, Drama Club, a local street dance company, great food, bouncy castles, Y5/6 Enterprise stalls and Mr. Letton in the stocks, there was something for everyone to see, eat, drink and soak!

The PTFA's hard work and the generosity of our community meant that £2000 was raised on the evening towards their funds.  Every penny that is raised by the PTFA goes directly to making things even better for our children.  Our thanks go to you all!

Make a mark in next year's diary for 4 July 2014 - Summer Sizzler III.

  • SATs Success!

    Thu 18 Jul 2013
Last week, we received the end of Key Stage 2 SATs results.  We are absolutely delighted to let you know that 2013 has given us our best results ever!  Level 4 is the national expectation for children aged 11.

94.4% of the children (34 out of 36) achieved a Level 4 in reading, with 44.4% achieving Level 5 or better.  This is an increase of 19% on 2012.

86.1% of children (31 out of 36) achieved a Level 4 in the brand new Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GAPS) test, with 52.6% achieving Level 5.  We don’t have anything to compare this yet, but our chats with other schools suggest that this is very good indeed!

91.4% of children (33 out of 36) achieved a Level 4 in mathematics.  This is an increase of 14% on 2012.  41.6% of the children achieved a Level 5 or higher.

We will continue to make it our aim for every child to achieve the very best that is possible for them.  We would like to thank the children for working so hard, the staff for their dedication and all parents and carers for their constant support.  It is very reassuring to know that we have done our best and the children are as ready as possible to do well at secondary school.

    Here’s to 2014!
