Blended Learning

Gateford Park Primary School

Blended Learning Information – October 2020

Blended learning is an approach to education that combines online educational materials and opportunities for interaction online with traditional school-based classroom methods. Where needed, this is high-quality and safe, and aligns as closely as possible with in-school provision. As a school, we are required to educate pupils remotely, where necessary, in our response to the COVID crisis. Remote education is integrated into school curriculum planning, as it may need to be an essential component in the delivery of the school curriculum alongside classroom teaching, or in the case of a local lockdown.

There are 3 key situations where remote/blended learning would be necessary:

  1. A child is self-isolating due to COVID-related illness (either themselves or another household member). If this happens, children will be provided with home learning for the duration of their absence. This will be available via Class Dojo, the class page on the website, email or hard copy, which can be collected from school. Your child’s class teacher may signpost you to Oak National Academy to access remote learning appropriate to their class topic on the Oak Academy website. There may be opportunities for the child to join a lesson remotely via Zoom or TEAMS, to access class teaching.

  2. A class bubble is required to isolate as a result of a positive COVID case in school. If this happens, children will be provided with home learning for the duration of their absence. This will be available via Class Dojo, the class page on the website or email. In addition to this, for children in years 2 to 6, there will be daily online teaching sessions with the class teacher via TEAMS or Zoom (unless the class teacher is ill), until such time as the class bubble can return to school.  Your child’s class teacher may signpost you to Oak National Academy to access remote learning appropriate to their class topic, on the Oak Academy website.
For children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1, learning will be posted on the class page and teachers will be available via email for guidance and support. For those year groups the class teachers will host regular TEAMS or Zoom class story time for everyone to join.

  3. A school or local lockdown is deemed necessary, as a result of COVID.
If this happens, children will be provided with home learning for the duration of the lockdown. This will be available via Class Dojo, the class page on the website or email. In addition to this, for children in years 2 to 6, there will be daily online teaching sessions with the class teacher via TEAMS or Zoom (unless the class teacher is ill), until such time as there is a full return to school. Your child’s class teacher may signpost you to Oak National Academy to access remote learning appropriate to their class topic on the Oak Academy website.

For children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1, learning will be posted on the class page and teachers will be available via email for guidance and support. For those year groups the class teachers will host regular TEAMS or Zoom class story time for everyone to join.
