  • The Great Spaceship Build-off

    Thu 06 Mar 2014

What a fantastic afternoon of cutting, sticking, designing, making, changing, sticking again, falling apart, sticking yet again!  We have an amazing range of rockets and spaceships which will all be entered into the competition and judged by our anonymous judge tomorrow.

1st to 3rd will be announced in the Mission Complete assembly on Friday at 2.45pm.  Come along and find out all the winners of all the fantastic competitions taking place on the final day of Space Week 2014.

  • Space Week - Day 3

    Wed 05 Mar 2014

Today was Space Academy day.  Every child, and most of the teachers, became space cadets and went on an amazing journey through the universe.

After the initial training and safety talk we fearlessly entered the spaceship and set off for the outer reaches of space.  There were a few close calls with sun, asteroids and a black hole but we made it back, you will be glad to hear, without casualties.

  • Stargazing at Gateford

    Wed 05 Mar 2014

Thank you to all the children, parents and friends of Gateford who came along to gaze at the stars with the Bassetlaw Astronomical Society on Tuesday evening.  With beautiful clear skies we were treated to an amazing spectacle of moon craters, nebulae and Jupiter with its moons.

After an informative talk about the night sky we all filed outside and queued up to have our chance to look through one or more of the powerful telescopes brought along by the society members.

Then it was time for a tasty rocketdog and planetcakes!  Yummy!

We hope to see lots of you at the next space event on Thursday.  Come along and help your child/ren to build a junk spaceship in the hall from 1.30pm.  See you there!

  • Space Week - Day 2

    Tue 04 Mar 2014
Today was Star Day and we had visitors from the Bassetlaw Astronomical Society.  They told us all about what we can see in the night sky at the moment and also taught us lots about our solar system.  Each class spent half an hour with the really enthusiastic members of the society and had the chance to ask lots of interesting questions.
  • Space Week - Day 1

    Mon 03 Mar 2014
The countdown is over.  Space Week 2014 is here.

Today the children from KS2 worked with Dr Roberts from Nottingham University.  Year 3 and 4 found out just how big space is and year 5 and 6 investigated how difficult it was to fly to the moon.

    Check out the photographs below.

Day 2 = Star Day.  Mr Whyles from the Bassetlaw Astronomical Society will be here all day working with the children and helping them to find out about the sky at night.  Why not come along at 6.30pm with your child/ren to find out more and hopefully to look at the stars.  Fingers crossed for a clear evening sky.  The PTFA have kindly offered to come along and sell hot dogs and drinks to keep us going.  Please come along and support the event.

  • Safer Internet Day

    Tue 11 Feb 2014
What a brilliant day we had on Safer Internet Day.

All of the children learned about keeping ourselves safer on the internet and how to deal with some of the dangers we might meet when we are online.

Children in Year 6 designed their own fantastic apps to help children to stay safer on the internet.  They are showing them proudly in the photograph.

We reminded ourselves that if we ever find something on the internet that upsets us or makes us worry, we should always tell a grown-up who we trust, either at home or at school.

Information for grown-ups is available at thinkuknow.co.uk or ceop.police.uk

Working together, we can help to make the world a safer place for all of our children.

  • Attendance Matters

    Fri 10 Jan 2014
Great news about attendance at Gateford Park.

We always check closely to see how we are doing and attendance in autumn 2013 was much improved on the same term in 2012. Well done everyone!

The amount of learning days lost to holidays was reduced. Fewer days were lost to illness too.

Well done to all of the children who have brought home a 100% attendance certificate following our Good News Assembly today. We are very proud of you!

    Keep it up, TeamGP!
