Year 1 - Pixie Class

Class team: Mrs Williams and Mrs Jackson

Welcome to Pixie Class. Year 1 is an exciting step as children build on the strong foundations developed in Reception. We provide a supportive transition into more structured learning while continuing to value practical experiences, talk, creativity and purposeful play. We want every child to feel confident, curious and proud of their progress.

Learning in our class

Our Autumn 1 topic is Incredible Me. In English, Jack and the Beanstalk supports oral storytelling, sentence composition, letter formation and growing confidence as writers. In maths, children develop counting, number recognition, one more and one less, place value and early addition and subtraction. They also learn about animals and the human body in science, technology around us in computing, pulse and beat in music, belonging in RE and high aspirations in PSHE.

Reading and learning at home

Please read with your child regularly and record this in their reading diary. Re-reading familiar books develops fluency and confidence. You can also support learning by practising letter formation, counting forwards and backwards, spotting numbers in the environment and playing simple number-bond games.

Useful class information

  • PE is on Thursday. Children should come to school in the correct PE kit, with earrings removed and long hair tied back.
  • Please bring reading books and diaries to school as requested by the class team.
  • Check Class Dojo regularly for reminders, celebrations and current class information.

Our PARK values  Pixies are encouraged to aim high, believe in themselves and approach new challenges positively. We show respect by listening, kindness by helping others and perseverance by trying again when something is difficult.

Keeping in touch

We believe that strong links between school and home help children to feel happy, secure and ready to achieve their best. Class Dojo is our main way of sharing class news, reminders and celebrations. If you have a question or anything that may help us support your child, please contact the class team. For urgent messages, including absence, please contact the school office.
