FS2 - Gnome Class

Class team: Miss Unwin and Miss Mills

Welcome to Gnome Class and the beginning of a very special school journey. Starting Reception is an exciting milestone, and we understand that the first few days can feel big for children and families. We will be there to reassure, encourage and celebrate every child as they settle into school, form friendships and grow in confidence.

Learning in our class

Our first theme is Ta-da! It's Me! Children will explore what makes them unique, talk about their families and important people, recognise and express feelings, and celebrate their strengths and talents. Through purposeful play, stories and adult-led learning, they will develop communication, early reading and writing, number, physical skills, creativity and understanding of the world. Maths will include matching, sorting, comparing, pattern, measure, the numbers 1, 2 and 3, circles and triangles.

Reading and learning at home

Please enjoy stories together frequently, talk about characters and pictures, sing familiar songs and rhymes, and encourage your child to recognise and begin writing their name. Games involving counting, matching, sorting and patterns are excellent ways to build early mathematical confidence.

Useful class information

  • Children need a named water bottle, book bag and a packed lunch if they are not having a school dinner.
  • Please label all belongings clearly.
  • We encourage children to carry and manage their own belongings to build confidence and independence.
  • A £10 voluntary snack contribution is requested at the beginning of each half term so that we can offer a varied selection of fresh, healthy snacks.

Our PARK values  Gnomes learn that everyone contributes something special. We use kindness to welcome others, respect to listen and cooperate, perseverance when learning feels tricky, and aspiration to feel proud of what we can achieve.

Keeping in touch

We believe that strong links between school and home help children to feel happy, secure and ready to achieve their best. Class Dojo is our main way of sharing class news, reminders and celebrations. If you have a question or anything that may help us support your child, please contact the class team. For urgent messages, including absence, please contact the school office.
